Trump Threatens to Pull Comcast NBC's Broadcast License -

Donald Trump has threatened to pull Comcast NBC Universal's broadcast license after the news outlet reported the President was seeking a ten fold expansion in the country's nuclear arsenal. The report cited three military officials that were in the room at the time of the request, who all stated that advisors, Joint Chiefs of Staff and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson were collectively "surprised" at Trump's request, and struggled in explaining how the request was logistically cumbersome and could run afoul of disarmament treaties.

The report apparently upset the President.

"Fake @NBCNews made up a story that I wanted a 'tenfold' increase in our U.S. nuclear arsenal. Pure fiction, made up to demean. NBC = CNN!" Trump wrote on Twitter Wednesday morning. "With all of the Fake News coming out of NBC and the Networks, at what point is it appropriate to challenge their License? Bad for country!"

This isn't the first time Trump has specifically targeted Comcast NBC Universal. During the election, Trump promised to somehow break up Comcast NBC Universal, which merged in 2011, because the combined company had "too much power."

"Comcast's purchase of NBC concentrated far too much power in one massive entity that is trying to tell the voters what to think and what to do," Trump also said on the campaign trail. "Deals like this destroy democracy and we'll look at breaking that deal up and other deals like that. That should never, ever have been approved in the first place, they're trying to poison the mind of the American voter."

Of course that didn't (and likely couldn't) happen, and Trump's threat to consider pulling the company's broadcast license is likely just as hollow. Still, the move is seeing significant criticism from those that still respect the First Amendment and understand the need for an independent press.
