Samsung’s 4K QLED TV is 65-inches of magnificence

Samsung's new QLED range of TVs feature huge screens, great colour, and a slight curve which makes your "flat" display look like it was designed by a pre-school child fingerpainting.

Samsung kindly dropped one of its new QLED TVs off at our office last week, a 65-inch 4K beauty with HDR and 4200R screen curvature.

As soon as it was set up, I knew that until at least Black Friday, I would have to go home every night to my current TV and pretend to be happy.

The QLED unit was stunning.

The frame was thin and the slight curve of the screen was beautiful to look at.

The display was crisp and filled with rich colours, making even Netflix's static sign-in screen a pleasure to watch.

Specifications

The Samsung QA65Q8CAM packs a 65-inch 3,840 x 2,160 display which supports HDR.

It features a 200Hz motion rate and "Mega Contrast" dynamic contrast ratio, said Samsung.

A great feature for those who want to mount the TV on a wall is its connection hub – the One Connect Box. The TV connects to the small box via a single cable, and it houses all the ports you will need.

This removes the need to connect an HDMI cable, for example, directly to the TV. This means less cable clutter on a wall and that your input devices do not need to be right next to the display.

The hub features 4 HDMI, 3 USB, and 1 Ethernet port among its many connections.

Smooth use

Using the Samsung QLED TV was a pleasant experience, and its metallic One Remote Control – which features voice commands – was a pleasure to use.

Our tests included launching apps and using the built-in Internet browser on the TV – which was responsive and did not suffer from perceivable lag.

We also plugged a MacBook Pro into the TV via an HDMI cable to playback media and test it as a gigantic second monitor.

Video playback on the display was as good as expected, and having a 65-inch QLED display as a PC monitor was a memorable first.

The TV supports Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, and connecting the display to the office Wi-Fi was a simple process through the TV's menu.
