Samsung unveils Connect Tag

Samsung has launched its Connect Tag, the "world's first consumer mobile product to use narrowband network technology".

The low-power NB-IoT, Cat.M1 tag uses cellular connectivity to provide location services and notifications to users.

"The Samsung Connect Tag will work with GPS, Wi-Fi-based positioning (WPS), and Cell ID, so it can receive accurate location information both indoors and outdoors," said Samsung.

The device is intended to be connected to a bunch of keys, a dog's collar, or a child's backpack so you can keep an eye on their location at all times.

The Connect Tag will be also tied to the SmartThings ecosystem.

It measures 42mm wide, is IP68 water and dustproof, and its 300mAh battery lasts up to a week on a charge.

Samsung said the Connect Tag will be showcased at its Developer Conference 2017 on 18 October.
