Netflix’s UK Internet TV and Movie Streaming Service Hikes Prices for Top Tiers

One of the most popular broadband-based unlimited Movie and TV video streaming services, Netflix, has increased the price of their HD quality Standard Plan and 4K friendly Premium Plan for new customers by 50p and £1 respectively. In fairness, their last increase was in 2015.

New customers to the service will of course face an immediate impact, while existing subscribers are already on monthly rolling contracts and so will face a 30 day notice period before the change is introduced. Historically past price increases have sometimes resulted in a proportion of existing users choosing to downgrade, which might at least make ISPs happy because that tends to reduce the bandwidth demands of their customers.

As usual a spokesperson for Netflix put the move down to their on-going efforts to develop new TV shows and bring fresh content into the network, "From time to time, Netflix plans and pricing are adjusted as we add more exclusive TV shows and movies, introduce new product features and improve the overall Netflix experience to help members find something great to watch even faster. The price change will roll out to members over the course of the next several months."

Admittedly those who only take one streaming service probably won't be too concerned, although if you cram several similar services together (e.g. Netflix, NOW TV and Amazon Prime) in order to get all the content you want, then the total annual cost to yourself soon begins to mount.
