Huawei Mate 10 launched

Huawei has launched its Mate 10 range, stating that it will open the door to new AI applications for mobile.

The company said its new Kirin 970 processor – which powers the Mate 10 – has the first neural network processing unit designed for a mobile device.

The chip also includes a dual-image signal processor which offers AI-powered photography.

Huawei said the neural network processing unit, combined with its HiAI mobile computing platform, allows the Kirin 970 to deliver up to 25-times better performance and 50-times greater energy efficiency for AI-related tasks when compared to four Cortex-A73 cores.

The Huawei Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro, and Mate 10 Porsche Design all feature a dual rear camera system, with 12MP colour and 20MP monochrome units.

South Africa will be among the first countries in the world to receive the Mate series, said Huawei.

"We believe these smartphones will cater for the South African consumer needs as we enter the age of AI," said Huawei.

"Consumers will be able to pre-order their devices on 6 November."
