Google Pixel 2 vs iPhone X – Superphone Duel

Google has unveiled its new range of Pixel smartphones, which will compete against the new Apple iPhone range.

"Feel free to choose whichever size Pixel you prefer, because you'll get the same great experience on both," said Google, taking a dig at Apple's iPhone 8 and iPhone X.

Both Apple and Google's devices feature large-screen designs with minimal bezels and no hardware buttons on the front. The devices also do not have a 3.5mm jack.

This is where most of the major similarities end, though.

Apple placed emphasis on the facial recognition capabilities of the iPhone X in lieu of a fingerprint sensor, while Google focused on it voice assistant software.

The Pixel 2 allows you to squeeze the sides of the device to use the assistant, in addition to saying "OK Google".

Google also revealed that the Pixel 2 has achieved the highest camera score on DxOMark.

While the Pixel 2 achieved the best overall score, DxOMark said Apple's dual-camera system on the iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X achieve better depth of field in portrait shots.

The iPhone X also supports 4K video recording at 60 frames per second, while the Pixel 2 supports 4K video at 30fps.

However, the Pixel 2 delivered better video performance in poorer lighting conditions than its competitors.

Where it truly shined was in its stabilisation, which DxOMark said was one of the best it has tested – and better than the iPhone.

Besides the cameras, operating systems, and virtual assistants, the smartphones sport similar hardware capabilities.

They all have large, high-resolution displays, powerful processors, and built-in onboard storage.

Fast LTE connectivity, IP67 ratings, and price tags well over $600 are also shared by the devices – as shown below.

As top-end smartphones evolve, their ecosystems and software become their defining factors, as opposed to their similar hardware and power, said Google.
