Cloudflare bans sites with secretly-embedded cryptocurrency miners

Cloudflare has said it regards the use of hidden embedded cryptocurrency miners on websites as malware, reported TorrentFreak.

The company has subsequently suspended the account of ProxyBunker.online, which embedded a Coinhive miner without informing visitors.

Coinhive is a JavaScript miner for the Monero Blockchain that you can embed in your website.

It was developed for use on a German image sharing website called Pr0gramm, where visitors must explicitly launch the miner and are able to control how much CPU power the miner uses.

The Pirate Bay has also been experimenting with Coinhive, but does so without warning visitors and without offering them control.

It is this behaviour that Cloudflare takes issue with.

"We consider this to be malware," said the company.
